Basic Scaffold Safety Checklist

Set Up

Is the scaffold being erected under the direction of a competent person?
Are all employees involved with (or near) the scaffold wearing hard hats?
Are footings sound and rigid – not set on soft ground, frozen ground (that could melt), or resting on blocks?
Is the scaffold level?
Are wheels / castors locked?
Is the scaffold able to hold four times its maximum intended load?
Is the platform complete front to back and side to side (fully planked or decked, with no gaps greater than 1 inch)?
Are guardrails and toeboards in place on all open sides?
Are all sections pinned or appropriately secured?
Is there a safe way to get on and off the scaffold, such as a ladder (without climbing on crossbraces)?
Is the front face within 14 inches of the work (or within 3 feet for outrigger scaffolds)?
Does the scaffold meet electrical safety clearance distances?

Usage

Is the scaffold inspected by a competent person before being put in use?
If the scaffold is over 10 feet high, is personal fall protection provided, or are guardrails over 38 inches high?
Are hardhats worn by workers on and around the scaffold?
Are scaffold loads (including tools and other equipment) kept to a minimum and removed when the scaffold is not in use (like at the end of a day)?
Are employees removed from scaffolds during high winds, rain, snow, or bad weather?
Are materials secured before moving a scaffold?
Are employees removed from the scaffold before they are moved?
Are heavy tools, equipment, and supplies hoisted up (rather than carried up by hand)?

:: FORM WORK ::

The Reliance Form work system consists of all steel economy panels. These are available in a combination of sizes from 75mm to 600mm wide and 900mm to 3000mm long. Special sizes can also be made to order.
The panels are joined by wedge sets which are inserted through slots in the punched flat which forms the edge of the panel.
The panels are aligned by either tube or channel walers which are clamped to the panels with “B” or “C” clamps.
For heavyduty concrete work soldiers are used. The panels are then gangformed and crane handled.
The panels are tied together to form parallel faces using UniSpan’s proprietary tie systems.

Wing Nut and Anchor Nut

The Return Transom is used at the end of a scaffold run where it meets another scaffold running at right angles to it. The U-shaped return section of the transom hooks over the ledger of the adjacent scaffold, closing off the gap between the two scaffold.

ICP’s come in a full range of lengths forming internal corner between a drop beam and slab soffit as well as vertical corers.

Clamps

Metriforms Beams

The Ledgers are manufactured from 48.3mm O.D. tube with forged steel blade ends which locate into bottom cups of the standards and are locked in place by the corresponding top cups. Ledgers are available in various lengths to provide the desired grid dimension for scaffolding or formwork.TOP

Dropheads

Dropheads

The quick action Dropheads supplied complete with nuts and bolts is designed to fit on standard props or adaptors for Cup locks scaffolding. They allow panels and beams to be struck and re-used after only 3n or 4 days, leaving the support in position for the remainder of the curing period of the concrete slab.

The primary head remains in contact with the concrete whilst the secondary head and its supporting wedge are released by a single hammer blow. The height of the Dropheads is 214mm and the striking distance allows the beams and panels to drop only 115mm for the their safe removal a marked improvement in terms of speed and safety compared with other systems.

The Dropheads has a load carrying capacity of 40kN.

Special care has been taken to ensure that beams cannot be accidentally dislodged once located with the Dropheads primed.

Our Coupler and fittings like pressed double coupler, pressed swivel coupler are manufactured by a modern rapid production system. The materials employed are principally mild steels/Forged Steels, and fittings have been tested and conform to the BS – 1139. Sleeve Coupler

Sleeve Couplers join two scaffold tubes externally end to end. A steel divider located centrally ensures equal insertion of each tube. They can be employed where tension joints are required and therefore are particularly useful for long bracing.

Putlog

Connects putlog tubes to ledger tubes for the support of scaffold boards. The one piece body has been carefully designed and press-formed to provide the maximum resistance to movement and a long working life. It is not required to be a load bearing coupler.

Girder Coupler

There is often a requirement to fasten scaffold tubes to girders and other steel sections which demands a specialized fitting with a high degree of versatility.In erection, the Gravlock Coupler is highly effective, as it enables the fitting to be bolted to the girder first, leaving both hands free to present and secure the tube. As the tube is not compressed against the girder it is not distored by the fastening process. Gravolock couplers must be used in pairs.

Joint Pin

Provides end to end connection of scaffold tubes. Operates by being inserted internally and expands to apply grip against the inner walls of the tubes. The fittings are designed only for compression joints, and should not be used where tension can be developed in the tubes.

Cuplock Transom

Transoms are fabricated from twin structural angles fixed back to back with a drop forged blade attached to each end. The 1.8m and above Transom has an additional web member welded below the flange section for added strength. The transom blade locates into a bottom cup and is locked in position by the top cup. The outward standing bottom leg of the angles supports the steel planks in a captive manner. Available in various lengths to suit scaffolding and formwork applications.
